First, let’s resolve a few resolutions as we forge into a new decade. Whether you’ve prepared a litany or short list of self-pledges when the clock struck midnight, January 1, the top three remain the same: Healthier eating, more exercise and losing weight.
Many forego the commitment crackdown while some do a little soul searching, maybe vow to travel more, learn a new language or other skill, use less plastic, and lots of meaningful ways to make the world a better place. An online article “… 55 New Year's Resolution Ideas for 2020” at https://parade.com/969195/megangrant/new-years-resolutions-ideas/ runs the gamut of ideas from making your bed every day to stop gossiping. Of course, the road to positive change has its pitfalls, but persistence and perseverance can temper a few setbacks!
With a focus on better health, aside from food choices, we tend to concentrate
on the physicality from neck to toes with exhausting workouts, skin
moisturizers, and, maybe a deep tissue massages to relax tense and tired
muscles. But there’s more to the story! Hair needs attention too!!
When neglected, our crowning glory can appear lifeless, dry, or, at the other extreme, limp and greasy.
Now that we’ve got your attention, let’s look at a few hair resolutions for 2020!
Let’s begin with the most basic hair care: Washing. How often should you wash? It’s a touchy topic! Some clients insist on daily scalp scrubs which can strip hair of natural oils. Others favor a weekly wash especially if their hair appears dry. The downside is that dirt and debris accumulates quickly via wind, sun, and indoor heat.
Whichever hair washing regimen you prefer-- daily, every few days or weekly--take some advice from hair experts at Carol Cole Salon.
Squeeze, please
: When washing hair, squeeze the water out. Any friction, especially harsh rubbing with a
towel or cloth, can damage the cuticle which is the outer surface of the hair
shaft. Damaged cuticles open up and hair may appear brittle, rough or dull.
Bottom to Top: Proper comb out of wet hair is crucial. Always use a wide-tooth comb and/or wet brush and start from the bottom to the top and work through strands section by section. A wet brush has bristles that are finer than typical hair brushes and are ideal for gliding through long hair with minimal tugging on tangles. And the key is to get through washing and drying your tresses with minimal or no damage
Routine advice: Beauty begins with a smile, and shines with a caring attitude. But attention to our appearance improves our overall well-being. Why else would we make resolutions of healthier eating or getting more rest? However you’ve decided to challenge yourself in 2020, keep in mind hair care is just as important as focus on your face and body! Start a moisturizing routine for your scalp and hair. You’ll notice the difference with a beautiful sheen!
